Jacob McCoy has been named the new sportswriter for the DeQuincy News and Cameron Pilot.
McCoy turned 29 last month and is a DeQuincy native.
He has two siblings, Josh McCoy who is a DeQuincy Police Officer and Jennifer McCoy Marshall.
His parents are Katina McCoy of DeQuincy and Virgil McCoy and step mother Linda Fontenot McCoy of Oakdale.
McCoy is a 2014 graduate of DeQuincy High School where he was involved in numerous school activities.
He is a very active member of the community and if there’s a big event in town chances are you’ll probably see him there!
He is a sports fanatic and loves high school and college sports with a passion.
He has worked many jobs in the food service industry as well as the local casinos and refineries and has an ultimate goal of eventually becoming a conductor for a class 1 railroad.
McCoy has a big heart for people and never meets a stranger.
He is a member of the Kansas City Southern Historical Society where he volunteers with the Holiday Express at various stops as well as attending various conventions in Shreveport.
In his spare time, he likes to fish with his dad at Toledo Bend as well as attending sporting events, walking the trails of Sam Houston Jones State Park, rail photography, taking his dog Libby on car rides, and eating at any Chinese buffet he can find.
McCoy has fought some tough health battles throughout his life such as three open heart surgeries and having Tourette’s Syndrome which is a verbal and body movement disorder but that does not stop him from being who he is and enjoying life!
McCoy said “I’m excited and looking forward to covering and serving the people in DeQuincy and the surrounding areas as well as Cameron Parish.
