Jeff Mays, Sr. was born Oct. 13, 1939, and passed away Sunday, Apr. 7, 2024, at the age of 84. Jeff proudly served in the United States Army in the Old Guard, Fort Myer, Virginia. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church of DeQuincy. Jeff enjoyed listening to music, watching westerns, and sitting in his yard. Most of all, he loved his family and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children, Jeff Mays Jr. and wife Zina, Maria Mays, Sharise Johnson, Michael Mays; grandchildren, Laneisha Johnson, Miesha Johnson, Pria Mays, Senee Mays, Mikayla Mays, Mckenzie Mays; sister, Rose Washington and husband Wesley; along with a host of nieces and nephews; special nephew, Claude Davis; and bonus son, Joel Gloston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Irving Mays; parents, Aaron and Harriet Roberts Mays; siblings, Egnora Davis, Wilson Batiste, Robert Batiste, Dorothy Davis, Allen Batiste, Agnes Davis, June Mays, and John Mays.

Pallbearers will be Claude Davis Jr., Preston Chenier Jr., Kewan Chenier, Marlon Davis, Johnny Shelvin Jr., and Michael Mays.
The family will receive friends from 8-9:30 a.m. with the rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 12, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Apr. 12, at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church, 203 S Grand Avenue, DeQuincy. Father Luis Tigga, H.G.N. will officiate. Interment to follow at Community Cemetery in DeQuincy.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St. DeQuincy.
