On Friday Mar. 29, area churches and individuals gathered for a “7 Last Sayings of Christ Program!”. It had been held for several years at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church where Pastor James Harris is the leader of the congregation.
Records from the 16th Century note that the sayings were widely used in sermons on Good Friday.
This year’s program started with singing, prayer, praise and worship!
The 7 sayings are:
Father forgive them; for they know not what they do.
Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Woman, behold, thy son!
My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?
I thirst!
It is finished!
Father, into thy hands I commend my Spirit.
