Theft subject identified

By Major Jerry Bell, Chief of Detectives

Last week, the DeQuincy Police Dept. put an article in the DeQuincy News asking for support in obtaining information pertaining to the theft at a local business where a vehicle was stolen, and damage was committed at that location.

Support from the community led to the identification of the subject. Major Jerry Bell sent an electronic warrant to Judge Bobby Holmes and it was returned the same date. Michael Shane Dunn, 50, W/M, Texas, was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Simple Criminal Damage to Property (two counts), Theft, and Unauthorized Use of a Movable. Judge Holmes affixed the bond at $25,000.

The subject, Dunn, is from Texas and probably has returned there. Numerous sightings of Dunn from local citizens have been reported to the DQPD but they have been of other people that resemble Dunn. Texas authorities have been notified to be on the lookout for Dunn, and his name has been placed on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

Dunn also is wanted from the state of Texas. This investigation is still ongoing, and the case will be presented to the Calcasieu District Attorney’s Office for their review. The DQPD is asking the public to continue to report further sightings of this individual in real time. The DQPD thanks the public for their help in this matter.
