Tigers Run-Rule Merryville 11-1

DeQuincy got off to a good start thanks to Merryville’s errors giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, DeQuincy tallied 5 runs in the 3rd and 5 more in the 4th to put the dagger in the Panthers.
Diron Valentine started on the mound for DeQuincy going 4 and a half innings with Lannin Duraso closing.

Rowdy Griffin had a solid night at bat having a couple of singles, the second which was an RBI bunt single that started the scoring in the 3rd inning. Andrew Dowden had a standup RBI triple and was excellent behind the plate all night. Diron Valentine also had an RBI single.

5th and 6th inning rally propelled DeQuincy in 11-4 win

The DHS Tigers got their second win of the weekend in the Sammy Dean Yellott Tournament over Highland Baptist 11-4. The Bears of HBCS gave the Tigers trouble in the first 2 innings but a great defensive performance from DeQuincy allowed the bats to come alive in the bottom half of the later innings. Carson Rainwater had a stellar performance at the plate going 4 for 4 with 2 RBI doubles along with a couple of singles. Diron Valentine also had a great night swinging the bat going 3 for 4 with an RBI double and 2 singles. Turner Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with with 3 singles and two of those being RBIs.

As for the pitching Quentin Pharris recorded 9 strikeouts while Turner Rodriguez recorded 4. Rowdy Griffin pitched late in the last inning as the quick pitching change was made to prevent Rodriguez from going over his pitch count to keep his arm fresh for the next game against Many.

Early errors and stranded runners on base

A couple of early errors quickly put DeQuincy in a hole as the Many Tigers took advantage of DeQuincy’s miscues, although DHS battled back with 6 hits and 3 runs. It just wasn’t enough as DeQuincy finished the Sammy Dean Yellott Memorial Tournament 2-1.

Carson Rainwater and Andrew Dowden led the hitting on the night both going 2 for 4.

Rainwater, Turner Rodriguez, and Lannin Duraso, all had a hand in the pitcher for DeQuincy.
