Coconuts named 2024 Business of Year

Coconuts Cajun Grill has been named the 2024 Business of the Year by the DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce. The business will be honored at the annual Chamber Banquet on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. at the T. D. Cardwell Center.

Coconuts is owned and operated by Shane Nelson. He is a graduate of DeQuincy High School and has been a business owner in DeQuincy for over 20 years.

Nelson opened the original Coconuts in 2013 in Sulphur. This location was closed due to the extensive structural damage received during the hurricanes of 2020. He’d had it on his heart to open a location in DeQuincy, so he focused on that dream. Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and recovering from hurricanes, he began construction.

Coconuts opened on New Year’s Eve in 2020. The menu items have quadrupled since Sulphur.

Coconuts is a family restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. Outdoor seating area has been added. On Friday nights, from 6-10 p.m., you can enjoy live entertainment and karaoke. Parties and reservations are welcomed.

Coconuts has 20 employees that serve the community. Their food is made fresh to order. Last year, fresh boiled crawfish was added to the menu.

He believes in small town community. They support community and school events. You can see them at local events and festivals in their new food trailer.

Shane Nelson and his staff are thankful for the continued support of the community.
