Eleazar Perez

Eleazar Perez was born Aug. 23, 1962 in Morelos, Coahuila, Mexico, and moved to Houston with his family as a young child. Eleazar graduated from Sam Houston High School and received a diploma from Shady Acres Baptist Church Bible Institute.

Eleazar was called to be a missionary to Spain in 1984 where he served for nine years. On Feb. 13, 1993 Eleazar married the love of his life Sue in Bradford, Pennsylvania. They served in Spain together until 1998. During this time, they welcomed two children, Sam and Rachel.

They moved back to the States where he began a ministry in Idaho. In 2002, the family moved back to Houston where Eleazar served as the pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church until 2022. He worked as a bereavement coordinator/chaplain at Altus Hospice. Throughout his life Eleazar went on many different missions trips where he served as an interpreter.

Eleazar was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed watching and listening to old country-western shows, cooking, and cheering for the world champions the Houston Astros.

Eleazar went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at the age of 61.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Perez; son, Samuel Perez and wife Andrea; daughter, Rachel Perez; grandchildren, Charlotte Perez and Walker Perez; siblings, Andres Perez and Jesus Perez; and nephew, Rueben Perez; along with numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Humberto and Maria Luisa Perez; two brothers; and two sisters.

The family received friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, at Shady Acres Baptist Church. Graveside service followed at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, at Magnolia Historical Cemetery in Magnolia Texas.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
