Carlis Smith was born Jan. 15, 1946, and passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at the age of 77. Carlis worked as a supervisor for 22 years at Turner Industries. He enjoyed watching western movies and the Astros play baseball. Carlis also loved listening to old country gospel music and traveling anywhere that involved driving. Most of all, Carlis loved his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rebecca Smith; children, Stevie Smith and wife, Sherry, Richard Kenneth Smith; grandchildren, Tara Smith, Breonna Smith, Michael Smith; siblings, Clara Belle Dorion and Prentiss Smith and wife, Maryann; and mother-in-law, Geneva Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Eva Rose Smith; along with 12 brothers and sisters.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, and continued from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. Anthony Kennon and Rev. David Kennon officiated. Interment followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
