Myrtis Tanner

Myrtis Ann Tanner, a native of DeQuincy, was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Como, Nov. 12, 1939.

She demised on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023. She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years, seven in Lake Charles, and 31 in Richmond, Calif. As a teacher, she always took time to give individual attention and encouragement to each of her students. After retiring, she moved to Las Vegas. She became united with First Baptist Church of the Lakes in 2002, where she taught Sunday School and continued her love of teaching children. She attended Bible Study Fellowship, enjoyed writing poetry and essays, and expressed her creativity through art and scrapbooking.

Myrtis will be missed dearly by her daughter, Gwendolyn Ann Tanner of Westwood, New Jersey; two sisters, Berna Dean Como of DeQuincy and Mildred Addison of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces and a host of relatives and friends.

A visitation for Myrtis was held Friday, Aug, 18, from 1 to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of the Lakes, 9125 Spring Mountain Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89117, followed by a funeral service from 2 to 3 p.m.

Another visitation will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Friday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m., followed by a Graveside Service at 2 p.m. at Community Cemetery in DeQuincy.
