The DeQuincy Tigers made a long awaited trip to the State Championship Game and matched up against the Oak Grove Tigers. Oak Grove had won back to back state championships, so the Tigers knew they would have their hands full. DeQuincy was up to the task taking the defending champs into extra innings, 5 extra innings that is, before Oak Grove finally got the break they needed and pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the 12th to take the victory over DeQuincy 11-10.

In arguably the best game of the weekend, DeQuincy battled hard and fought back from a 9-1 deficit to take the lead in the seventh inning 10-9 but Oak Grove was able to push a run across in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up 10-10.

DeQuincy jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning Pitcher Reese Ashworth struck out the side.

In the second Oak Grove got 4 runs with timely hits and an error. After a scoreless 3rd frame Oak Grove scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth to take the 9-1 lead before DeQuincy started their massive comeback.

Coach Brady Carlson making his first finals appearance said of his Tigers. “They never stop battling. That is just who they are. There is no quit in them.”

Coach Carlson also went on to say “that it is their ‘refuse to lose’ attitude and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
