Margaret J. Gillis was born Aug. 13, 1931, and passed away Wednesday, Apr. 26, 2023 at the age of 91. She enjoyed quilting and was a faithful member of the First Pentecostal Church of Starks. Most of all Margaret loved her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Ronald Eugene Gillis and wife, Juanita, Arnold Ray Gillis and wife, Darlene; grandchildren, Mark Gillis, Christy Fear, Waylon Gillis and wife, Kimberly, Nathan Gillis and wife, Jaclyn, Justin Gillis and fiance, Jessica; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Pauline Collins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Aubrey Gillis, Sr.; son, James Aubrey Gillis, Jr.; parents, James and Millie Johnson; siblings, Paul Johnson, Samuel Ray Johnson, Dr. Lester Johnson, Carmen Ashworth, James Albert Johnson, OJ Poole, Dorothy Stanley, Jewell Ainsworth, and Rubye Rackley.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Apr. 28 and the funeral service began at 10 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 29, at First Pentecostal Church, located at 225 Hwy. 109 S., Starks. Pastor Karl Smith officiated. Interment followed at Gillis Cemetery in Starks.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
