Lester Hudson

Lester Norman Hudson went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Mar. 22, 2023, at the age of 86, in Naples Florida, surrounded by loved ones.

Most people knew him as Norman or Papa. Norman was born to Edward (Bud) and Mae Hudson Dec. 15, 1936, in Elmer.

He grew up in DeQuincy with his three brothers and two sisters. After graduating from DeQuincy High School, he proudly served in the Air Force for three years. When he left the military due to an injury, he worked at the Base Exchange and the Civil Service office until he started working at the US post office for many, many years and retired at 72. He enjoyed many years of retirement with family and cherished his long Sunday phone calls with Reba.

Norman had his precious daughter Reba soon after the Air Force. He loved helping her take care of their horses, taking her fishing, and reading to her when she was young. He enjoyed taking Reba to visit with all her cousins, Norman’s many nieces and nephews, during her childhood.

He is known for his kindness, his iconic grin, his laugh, and his humor. He gifted us so many fun memories to cherish. You would often see Norman napping with his fur baby. His love for his dogs was something special.

Norman is survived by his wife, Lorraine Hudson; his lovely daughter, Reba Beasley; his stepchildren, Renee Galloway and Jim McIntosh; his brothers, Earl Hudson and Dale Hudson; and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward (Bud) and Mae Hudson; and sisters, Edwina Cole and Hallie Cooley; his brother, Conrad Hudson; and stepson, Brad McIntosh.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Apr. 7, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St, DeQuincy.
