Gerald Robert Perkins was born Jan. 11, 1938, and passed away Mar. 2, 2023, at the age of 85. Gerald proudly served in the United States Army. He was the umpire for Dixie Youth Baseball for 30 years. He was also a deacon at the First Baptist Church in DeQuincy.
He is survived by his daughter, Hilda Marie Day and husband, Dean; grandchildren, David Day and wife, Katina, Michael Day and wife, Tiffany, and Stephen Day; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Marie, Adalynn, and Cecilia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Perkins; and his parents, Ras and Hilda Perkins.
The family received friends from 12-2: p.m. with the funeral service starting at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Mar. 4, at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Rev. David Ernest and Rev. Gil Arthur officiated. Interment followed at Big Woods Cemetery in Vinton.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
