Amos Jackson, Jr.

Amos J. Jackson, Jr. was born Mar. 1, 1938 in DeQuincy to the late Amos Jerome Jackson, Sr. and his wife Brunella. He departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023 in Lafayette at the age of 84.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. He later became a welder and pipefitter for Brown & Root (now known as Kellogg, Brown & Root – KBR) and multiple chemical plants in the Gulf Coast Region.

He is survived by his daughter, Louise Jackson of Texas, Amanda January Jackson of Beaumont, Texas, Lila Monique Jackson of Maryland; son, Marlon Brando Glass and his wife, Ashley of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, LaToya, Asheton, Jaleel, Jacquelyn, Marlon, II, Sayvion, Ramiyah and Harmony; sisters, Bessie Bluiett of Beaumont, Texas and Delores Bluitt of DeQuincy; brother, Michael Jackson and his wife, Rosina of Lafayette; sisters-in-law, Barbara Jackson of Pearland, Texas, Ora Mae Thomas of DeQuincy, Peggy Adams of Houston, Texas and Deborah Rollins and her husband, Raymond of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers-in-law, David White and wife, Marilyn of Monroe, and Earl Glass of Lake Charles. He is also survived by his nephews, Robert Edmonson, II of Aberdeen, Md., Percy Jackson, Sheldon Jackson, and Brian Jackson of Houston, Texas, Eric Jackson of Fort Knox, Ky., Donovan Bluiett of Beaumont, Texas, Mylo Gibson of Warner Robins, Ga., Christopher Bluitt of Lake Charles, and Trohelous Miko Bluitt of Sulphur; niece, Samantha Coleman Denly of Pflugerville, Texas; and a host of cousins and other relatives from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Jerome Jackson, Sr. and Brunella (Maynard) McCarter; his wife, Rachel (Glass) Jackson, brothers, Edward Lee Jackson, Sr. and Phillip Carrier, sisters, Louise M. Jackson, Thelma McCarter, and Linda Joyce Caston; and grandparents, Rosella Jackson, Louise (McDonald) Wells, and John Maynard.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Reverend Margaret Simms, Reverend Valencia Jackson, Ora Mae Thomas, Gwen Chapper, Elaine Jackson, Alice Glass, Betty Doyle, Robert Jack, Thomas Mallett, and Michael and Rosina Jackson for taking care of their loved one.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy with the funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 511 South Grand Ave., DeQuincy with Pastor Valencia Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Community Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy.
