Verna Smith Hoosier was born Oct. 4, 1924, and passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at the age of 98.
She is survived by her children, Charlotte Royer and husband, Rev. Leon Royer, Rev. Roy Hoosier and wife, Vicky Hoosier, Ethel Farley and husband, Charles Farley, and Claude Hoosier, Jr. and wife, Kaye Hoosier; grandchildren, Darla Brantley and husband, Robert Brantley, Renea VanDorn and husband, Rev. Kevin VanDorn, Debbie Wiley and husband, Curt Wiley, Deanne Wilson and husband, Rev. Royce Wilson, Tim Miller and wife, Rosa Miller, Bethany Davis and husband, Rev. Eric Davis, Teresa Insalaca and husband, Chris Insalaca, and Rev. Lindsey Hoosier and wife, Whitney Hoosier; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Hoosier; daughter, Sharon Ann Stanley; parents, Napoleon and Caroline Smith; two brothers; and seven sisters.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13, at First Pentecostal Church of Starks.
Visitation continued from 12-2 p.m. with the funeral service following at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at First Pentecostal Church of Starks. Rev. Karl Smith will be officiated. Interment followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th St., DeQuincy.
