The Starks Lady Panthers played big at the Buna Cougar Tournament in Texas. In the first of three victories the Lady Panthers defeated Nederland on Thursday, Bridge City on Friday and stepped center court on Saturday to defeat the West Orange Stark Mustangs – for the tournament championship.

The Lady Panthers trailed WOS at the half and into the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Starks team dig in and climb back up to take a slim lead. A lead which transitioned between each teams possession. The teams became tied in the final minutes of play and the tie continued into the final seconds of play.

Madelyn Nolen stepped to the foul line after retrieving an offensive rebound and making a shot attempt. With 1.6 seconds left on the clock, Ms. Nolen missed her first foul shot and sank her second. Starks Lady Panthers took the win at 34-33 over the West Orange Stark Mustangs, brining the Buna Cougar Tournament Championship trophy home to Starks.

This is the second Texas tournament championship win by the team.
