Don E. Johnson, 63, was born Sept. 25, 1959 in DeQuincy and passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022 in Sulphur. Don loved big and never met a stranger. He was known as Pop and Poppa Don to his children and grandchildren. He could talk the horns off a billy goat and was an LSU fan. Don enjoyed swamp pop music and loved to dance. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Danna Johnson; children, Eric Johnson, Amanda Hofford, Robert Trahan and wife, Christina, and Jennifer Trahan; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Lowrimore and husband, Glenn; numerous nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Sharon “Rooney” Hagar.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Conner Schexneider; parents, Joe and Berta Johnson; siblings, Jack Johnson, John Johnson, Shirley Talbert and husband, Henry; nieces, Wanda “Red” Edgerton, and Glenda Williamson Taft; and father-in-law, James Hagar.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, with the funeral service starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 at First Baptist Church, 644 State Hwy. 272, Deweyville, Texas. Pastor Damon Bickham officiated. Interment followed at Doyle Cemetery in Starks.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy.
