Marcy Frazar

A Celebration of Life was held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, for Marcy Gillis Frazar, 82, who passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, in the company of her family. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. at First United Pentecostal Church, located at 120 Mahlon St, DeRidder.

A private family burial was held on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Service was officiated by Pastor Zale Lewis, First United Pentecostal Church; Pastor George Lee Glass, Grace Church; Pastor Charles Chargois, Calvary Tabernacle; and Rev. A. D. Spears.

Marcy, a resident of DeRidder, was the daughter of the late Rev. A. B. Gillis and Sister Ella Gillis. She spent her youth traveling Southwest Louisiana, as her father pastored several local United Pentecostal churches. She graduated from Singer High School. She was a respected businesswoman for many decades in DeRidder.

She loved her family and friends more than anything. Her favorite thing was the holidays; Christmas being her favorite. She instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the joy of a Christmas Eve dinner when everyone would come home and spend time together, making beautiful memories and enjoying her fabulous cooking and baking. Christmas morning stockings always brought a contagious smile to her face.

Her special great-grandchildren, Graham and Ella, held a special place. Graham is credited with giving her a second wind in life. When he was born, she had a rejuvenated energy.

She married the love of her life John D. Frazar Jr. They enjoyed many years together. They loved traveling. They went everywhere from Las Vegas to New Orleans. They enjoyed dining out and playing practical jokes on one another.

Being a caring Mother to her four children and a proud “MaMa” to her seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren brought her the most happiness in life. Marcy’s joy for life, sense of humor and love for her special great-grandbabies was shared with family and friends and she will be greatly missed by all whose life she touched.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Wilson and fiancé Eugene Cooley; sons, Gene and Carrie Wilson, Kelvin Wilson and Jennifer Ross, and Frank Wilson; stepdaughter Joan Francine Frazar; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Marsha and Justin Mouser (Graham and Ella), Brad and Jamie Williams (Kami and Kinzley), Brandon and Michelle Williams (Rosalie, Angela, and Shyla), Blake and Wendy Wilson (Hanna and David), Kayla and Alex Fontaine (Colt and Charlotte), Logan and Donna Wilson (Ayden), Devin and Jamie Woodard (Della and Denver); sister Edith Spears and husband Rev. A. D. Spears; brother. Aubrey “Buddy” Gillis and Brenda Champagne; special friends, Ruth Wells, her sister in love, Keith and Kathy Suire, and Ronnie and Tammy Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Frazar, Jr.; and parents, Rev. A. B. and Sister Ella Gillis.

Special thanks to the team of nurses and care givers from Brighton Bridge Hospice.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy.
