Marian Coward

Marian Lynn Coward, 80, of DeQuincy passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022 at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital. She was born to her late parents, Mattie Grey Johnson and Shorty Vernice Hardy Coward on Nov. 4, 1942 in DeQuincy.

She loved Rock concerts, NHRA Drag Racing, Boiled Crabs, and loved attending Hixson-Snider’s monthly LIFT program, and Senior Center where she loved participating in various activities. A special part of her life was her family’s animals, especially Bailey. In Marian’s younger years, she worked for Theriot Milford and Dunn in Lake Charles and in her later working years, she retired from Phelps Correctional after many years of service.

She is survived by her daughter, Alma Castaneda Soileau (Buddy) of Sulphur; sister, Sheila Coward Carter of Slidell; grandson, Hunter Ryan Soileau; along with two nieces, Christi Marcantel (Tony) and Angela Frost (Brownie).

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Connie Sue Jordan; niece, Jill Jordan; along with her brother in law, Neal Allen Carter.

A Celebration of Marian’s life was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m., with Bro. Alvin Dale Smith officiating. Visitation was at the funeral home on Friday, beginning at 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.

She was loved by a large family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
