Chamber board meets to finalize Christmas plans

The DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce met for their monthly Board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Heritage Place Hotel & Suites. A meal was sponsored by DeQuincy Memorial Hospital.

New business was discussed and centered around upcoming plans to support the arrival of the KCS Christmas Train, which will arrive at the DeQuincy Railroad Museum at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30. There will be 26 vendors on site selling food and gift items.

The Chamber will sell a 12 oz. hot chocolate for $2. Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home donated the supplies for the booth.

On Saturday, Dec. 3, the Chamber will host the annual Christmas Parade. Line-up is at 10 a.m. on 3rd St. There is no fee to enter. The theme is “A Small Town Christmas.”

Later in the afternoon, festivities will continue with activities at Union Pacific Ballpark beginning at 4 p.m.
Families are invited to bring their children to tailgate and enjoy Snow, sponsored by Cleco and facilitated by Ward 6 Recreation Board. There will be a booth for pictures with Santa. Lighting is being donated by Brandon Fruge Rentals.

A Fireworks show will be held at 6:30 p.m., facilitated by DeQuincy Fire Dept. Fireworks are funded by City of DeQuincy and Visit Lake Charles Tourism. All activities are free to the public.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, a memorial service will be held to honor Harry T. Methvin and dedicate the Newport Industries Room as Harry T. Methvin Memorial Room. Refreshments will be served.

The next board meeting will be held the 2nd Thursday in December on the 8th at 12 noon.
