Joseph Edward “Slim” Broussard Sr., 96, of Vinton passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022 surrounded by his family. Joseph was born on Feb. 14, 1926 in Vinton.
J. E. proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII under General George Patton, was a member of the VFW Post #4759 in Starks for 39 years, and was Commander of the Post for 20 years. J. E. retired from DuPont in 1988 after 40 years of service as an Electrician. Mr. Broussard was honored with one of the largest retirement parties in DuPont’s history and received a saddle, saddle stand, and a swing to enjoy his time with his love, Sissy, under the big oak trees. J. E. was one of the last “ole time cowboys”, during the early years of his life he would ride horseback driving cows across the intercoastal canal along with his dad and other Broussard and Hudson family members. They would take them to the marsh during the winter time. Later in life he would take his cows to the marsh by truck and trailer with his son-in-law. After he was unable to have cows he would still like to ride to Johnson Bayou when they had the big cow roundup.
J. E. was preceded in death by his son, Joseph E. Broussard Jr.; parents, Frank and Ida Broussard; three brothers, Willard, Ernest, and Elton Broussard; and two sisters, Fern Woods and Vera Rumsey.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 39 years, Enid McKay Broussard; daughters, Dreama Broussard Sullivan and Kathy Cormier (Roland); sons, C. W. “Wendy” Johnson (Rebecca Sue), Kenneth “Pete” Johnson (Sherry), and Rodney Johnson (Rachel); grandchildren, Joya Rose Sullivan, Lauren Johnson LaBove, Jacob Johnson, McKenzie Johnson, Montana Cathey (Garret), Josh Bonsall (Letitia), Hunter Cormier, and Trevor Cormier; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
