Tigers notch second win of season

In a game of two pretty evenly matched teams the DeQuincy Tigers found themselves on the winning end when they stopped Lake Arthur on a two point conversion at the end of the game to take the victory 35-33.

DeQuincy was outgained by Lake Arthur by just 13 yards. DeQuincy gained all of their 246 yards via the rush. DeQuincy had no passing attempts on the night.

DeQuincy had the lead after the first quarter 7-0 as Carson Rainwater took it in from 1 yard out. Kohen Cormier added the extra point.

Wyatt LaVergne then got in on the scoring action. As he ran it in from 12 yards out to put the Tigers on top 14-0 as the Cormier kick was again good.

Eathan Guidry then had a long 58 yard run to close out the first half scoring. The Tigers went into the half with a 21-6 lead.

Lake Arthur stormed out of the locker room and scored two back to back 16 yard touchdowns to bring the score to 21 – 21.

Wyatt LaVergne would put the Tigers back up as he scored on a 7 yard touchdown to put the Tigers up 28-21. However Lake Arthur scored on a 80 yard kickoff return to bring the score to 28-27 as Lake Arthur missed the extra point.

Eathan Guidry opened the 4th quarter up by toting it in to the endzone on a 16 yard run of his own to score the Tigers last points.

Kohen Cormier was 5 for 5 on PAT’s as he continues his great year.

The Tigers defense gave up the Lake Arthur touchdown but stood tall on the 2 point conversion attempt and stopped Lake Arthur short to seal the Tigers victory 35-33.

Eathan Guidry led the Tigers in rushing with 126 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wyatt LaVergne added 65 yards and two touchdowns of his own.

Defensively the Tigers were led by Jace Puryear with 6 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss. Right behind with 5 tackles was Senior Sammy Maddox. Tigers with 3 tackles included Eathan Guidry, Wyatt LaVergne, Hayz Hext, Gunner Holley, and DaCorius Griffin. Koby Poole had 2 tackles.

This was a hard fought much needed win by the DeQuincy Tigers.

Next up for the Tigers is the Grand Lake Hornets who come to Tiger Stadium Friday night for Senior Night. The senior football players, cheerleaders and band members will be honored prior to the 7 pm kickoff.
