Smith to run for City Council

James Grover “Jim” Smith, lifelong resident of DeQuincy, has announced that he is a candidate for DeQuincy City Council, District 2.

Smith is a graduate of DeQuincy High School and 12 year Veteran of the Army National Guard.

He retired as Operations Manager of Construction at Turner Industries. He has worked overseas for Brown & Root International in the Far East, Middle East and Europe and in New Orleans for Chevron Oil Company.

Smith was named Citizen of the Year in 2006 by the DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce. He is member of TPC of DeQuincy, the Lions Club and DeQuincy Masonic Lodge #279.

He is married to Cynthia Young Smith. They have two children, Vanessa Stewart and Chandel Boykin, both of DeQuincy; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is the son of Dorothy and the late Grover Smith of DeQuincy.
