Howard Pullard, Sr.

Howard George Pullard, Sr. was born to the parentage of John Carlton and Ophelia Joubert Pullard in DeQuincy, on Nov. 29, 1947. After a long illness, he received his heavenly wings on Wednesday, Apr. 20, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles.

He was baptized at an early age; and received his early Christian education at home and through Morning Star Baptist Church (DeQuincy) under the leadership of the late Rev. Allen L. Gillespie.

Howard received public school education from DeQuincy Colored, and was a 1968 graduate of Grand Avenue High School. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Army where he served honorably.

Howard lived most of his adult life in Lake Charles where he united in Christian Fellowship at Throne of Grace under the leadership of Dr. Wilton J. Red. He was a retiree from W.O. Moss Regional Hospital.

Howard met and married Joslin Clanton. To this union one daughter and four sons were born. He later met and married Gloria Benoit. To this union one son was born, and he gained a bonus son.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gloria Benoit Pullard of Lake Charles; daughter, Thedra Lynn Pullard of DeQuincy; sons, Mayanus Pullard (Sonja) of Atlanta, Ga., Jarvis Pullard of Sulphur, Isadore (Evelyn) Pullard and Howard G. Pullard, Jr. of DeQuincy, Denzel (Angel) Pullard and Brian Cummings of Lake Charles; sisters, Retha (Walter Leon) Payne and Ethel Crawford of DeQuincy, Etta (Freddie) Gray of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; brothers, Harvey Carl Pullard, Sr. of Lake Charles and Leroy Ballou of Sulphur; sister-in-law Martha Wilson Pullard; special niece, Betty Jo Cotlong of DeQuincy; special nephews, Roy Ellis Monroe of Atlanta, Ga. and Rev Joe Hardy of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Jr., Charles, and Hura Lee; and sisters, Joan Eva, Cecelia, and Barbara Gail.

A celebration of Howard’s life was held Saturday, Apr. 30, at Throne of Grace Fellowship Church in Lake Charles. Eulogist was his pastor, Dr. Wilton J. Red. Interment was at Paradise Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to James Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Escort from Lake Charles to DeQuincy was performed by Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department.
