Gerard Eddie Wellman was born Mar. 11, 1951 in Leesville. He passed from this life Friday, Jan. 21, 2022 in Sulphur. He was the youngest son of Eddie Leroy Wellman and Vercie Opal Welch Wellman.
He is survived by his sons, Eddie Wellman and wife, Katy of DeQuincy and Dereke Wellman of DeRidder; one daughter, Sarah Cowart of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Baily Duplechian Whatley and husband, Samuel, Karly Duplechian, Maribeth Cowart, Justin Wellman and Amelia Cowart; along with one great-grandson, Liam Whatley. He is also survived by his brothers, Gilbert Wellman of Athens, Texas and Garland Wellman of Longview, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eddie Leroy Wellman and Vercie Opal Welch Wellman.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy and will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Northside Baptist Church with the funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Randy Edwards will officiate and interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in LeCampte.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions be made to Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home or to an account at B1 Bank to help with the funeral expenses.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
