Nancy Bass

Nancy Jo VanVoorhis Bass, 79, left this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 in her home surrounded by loved ones.

She was born Aug. 1, 1942 in Waynesville, Mo. She was a longtime resident of Longville since 1973. Nancy married the love of her life, David Charles Bass, Jr. in 1962. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this past October. She was wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor.

Due to her generous spirit and servant’s heart she was loved and adored by all of those who knew her. She faithfully served her church and community for many years. She did her absolute best to attend every one of her ten grandchildren’s award ceremonies, band concerts, baptisms, graduations, and weddings.

Her home and heart was open to every family member, friend, neighbor, stranger, and even stray animals. There were no limits to the love she had to give. Her life was a beautiful reflection and witness to the love of Jesus.

She is survived by her husband, David Charles Bass, Jr.; children, Donna Renee Mitchell and husband, Raymond, Pamela “Dolly” Stratton and husband, “Dave”, David C. “Davy” Bass, III and wife, Miriam, Charlotte Denise Bass and Jimmy Daniel Bass; nine grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren; and her sister, Shirley Ray and husband, Gene.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her granddaughter Brittany Karschnik and brother, Randy Smith.

The family received friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. There was a visitation from 9-11 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20, at Grace Church, 111 S Texas St., DeRidder. Interment followed at Barrentine Cemetery in Longville.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
