(Editor’s Note—Shirley Johnson, longtime employee of the DeQuincy News and Cameron Pilot, passed away Friday, Dec. 4. She was truly one of a kind. She touched each of our lives in so many ways. She will live on in our hearts and memories for years to come through her witty sayings and kind gestures.)
Shirley Ann Johnson, 85, of DeQuincy, passed away on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Shirley was born to her late parents, Marshall and Trudi Pace on Aug. 11, 1936 in Shreveport. She worked for the DeQuincy News with over 40 years of service as Production Manager. Shirley enjoyed Bingo, Pokeno, crossword puzzles, and reading. She especially loved playing Canasta with the Fearsome Foursome, which consisted of Freda Johnson, Frankie Bell, and her best friend of more than 60 years, Annette Brown.
She is survived by her son, Jason Johnson (LeAnn) of Silsbee, Texas; and her two grandchildren, Colton Johnson and Corben Johnson, whom she loved very much.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billie Wayne “Coach” Johnson.
A Celebration of Shirley’s life was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m., with Bro. Harry Methvin officiating. Visitation was at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 6, from 5 until 8 p.m. Visitation resumed at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Perkins Cemetery.
