Roger Van Winkle

Roger Wayne “Pete” Van Winkle, 73, of Moss Bluff, passed into the arms of his Savior on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021 at his residence.

Pete was born Feb. 2, 1948 to his late parents, Bevil and Capitola Van Winkle in DeQuincy. He proudly served our country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He worked for many years for the Union Pacific Railroad where he retired after 22 years. He loved fishing, playing golf, and all sports in general and was extremely competitive. After retirement, he worked for Mallard Golf Course for over 20 years. He was a lifelong fan of LSU Football.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Van Winkle; one son, Owen Anderson “Scotty” Scott, Jr. (Kirsten) of McHenry, Miss.; two daughters, Page Hyatt and Courtney Van Winkle, both of Moss Bluff; two sisters, Beverly Lowery (Raymond), Melonee Cooper (Tim), both of DeQuincy; seven grandchildren, Brock Evan Dennis, Drew Addison Hyatt, Piper Jade Hyatt, Ava Rose Scott, Lyla Claire Scott, Nolan Winston Scott, and Winnie LeAnn Scott.
Services were held at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy on Monday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Wayne Neyland and Pastor Jerry Snider officiating.

Visitation was at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 5 until 8 p.m. Visitation resumed at the Church on Monday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.

Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
