Retha Corley

Retha Marcantel Corley was born Dec. 7, 1926 and passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021 at the age of 94 with her family surrounding her singing songs of worship.

For fifty plus years Retha was a faithful member of First United Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy where she received the baptism of the Holy Ghost on June 10, 1970. Retha lived a very simple, sacrificial life. She loved spending time fishing, sitting on her porch in her swing and feeding the birds. She also loved her flowers, especially her azaleas.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Adelle (Hester) Bonacassio of Mount Vernon, Wash., Reda Carley of DeQuincy, Wayne Corley and wife, Cathy, Angie Malone and husband, Bret and Tina Brady, all of Sulphur; 7 grandchildren, Charlie Carrasco, Michael Brady, Jeromy Brady, Kristen Swartz, David Corley, Aaron Brady and Brittney Bartley; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Wesley (Tom) Marcantel and wife, Silva.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Birchard Corley; parents, Wilmer Marcantel and Eva Pruitt Marcantel; two sisters; and three brothers.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy and and will resume from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at First United Pentecostal Church, DeQuincy with a funeral service to begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Carlton Jackson, Jr. and Bishop T. D. Cardwell will be officiating. Interment to follow at Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St. DeQuincy.
