At 4:28 p.m., DeQuincy Fire Dept. and Ward 6 Fire Dept. were dispatched to a reported structure fire in downtown DeQuincy.
Upon arrival to the Hammons Building, the DeQuincy Fire Dept.’s first due engine, smoke was reported from the 2nd floor and roof area.
Ward 6 Engine 5 was assigned to lay supply line to DQFD Engine 19 as crews from DQFD made an offensive attack. Crews from Ward 6 assisted with a second offensive attack line.
Houston River Fire Dept. was requested Mutual Aid for a ladder truck and manpower.
Beauregard Fire District 2 was also requested for manpower. Acadian Ambulance assisted with medical monitoring.
DeQuincy PD did an amazing job with traffic control since two main thoroughfares were blocked with supply hoses.
Firefighters made an excellent fire attack and contained the fire to two rooms on the first floor. All businesses and the 2nd floor had to be ventilated to remove heavy smoke from the building.
There were no injuries to any emergency personnel on scene.
Thanks to the work of firefighters from multiple departments, the historic building was saved with minimal damage.
