Ricky Chovanec

It is with great sadness that the family of Ricky Chovanec announces his passing on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021 at the age of 59.

Ricky was born in DeQuincy in 1962 to Frank and Vergie Chovanec. He was a 1980 graduate of DeQuincy High School and Delta Tech, and was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for many years.

Ricky loved fishing, tending his plants and trees, and digging for arrowheads. Often seen around town with metal detector and shovel in hand, he was an all around treasure hunter and history buff, always willing and ready to share his impressive collection of coins, jewelry, trinkets, and fossils.

Ricky will be terribly missed by his two children, Brittany and Aaron, and their mother, Janice; grandson, Bishop; big sister, Becky; and brother, Dennis; nieces, Megan and Heather; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant sister, Charlotte Ann.

A Graveside Service will be held at Mimosa Pines South in Carlyss on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m., with Bro. Gil Arthur officiating. Visitation was held at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy on Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 5 until 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund in his memory at www.fbcdq.org
