Vivian Miller

Vivian “Bootsy” Miller, a resident of Starks passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 at the age of 72.

Bootsy always had a smile on her face and she gave the best hugs. She was an amazing teacher. She began her teaching career in Starks, spending several years working with the Head Start program. She retired from Calcasieu Parish after 33 years of inspiring and educating children at Starks Elementary. After retiring from Calcasieu Parish, she went on to teach two additional years at Little Cypress Christian Academy.

Her love of children was evident in her life and teaching was her gift. She continued to teach Sunday School and VBS throughout her life. She was the kind of lady who “showed up”; if she received an invitation, she was going and she never missed an event or an opportunity to make her family and friends feel special.

Bootsy loved to travel whether it be a girls trip or a family vacation, making memories her family and friends will cherish for a lifetime.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Starks. You could count on her to “show up” each Sunday wearing her fancy clothes, usually something pink and her flashy jewelry with a smile on her face ready to teach and share the love of Jesus.

She was a loving wife, mother, Grammy and Nanny and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, George “P C” Miller; son, Pete Miller and wife, Candace; grandchildren, Pistol, Cypress and Mayes, all of Starks. She is also survived by her sisters, Joyce Hester, Nelda Smith, Judy Marcantel and husband, Bo, Nancy Ashworth and husband, Rabit along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Chelsea Georganne Miller; and her parents, Nathan and Olivia Dickerson.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, at First Pentecostal Church, 225 Highway 109 South, Starks and the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 30, at the First Pentecostal Church. Rev. Ron Butler will officiate. Interment will follow at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
