Oliver James “O.J.” Hunt, a resident of Opelousas, was born Dec. 11, 1932 and passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at the age of 88.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Overmyer Hunt; six children, Tim Hunt and wife, Rhonda of Deville, Connie Bell and husband, Dennis of DeQuincy, Jan Barrow and husband, Wayne of DeQuincy, Melinda Mathews of Woodville, Texas; and David Mathews of West Monroe; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Andrew Hunt and wife, Lou; Mike Hunt and wife, Linda and Jerry Hunt.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jay Eldon Mathews; parents, James John Hunt and Mae Viva Richard Hunt; and sister, Lydia Hunt Bernard.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. and the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, at Opelousas Bible Baptist Church, 640 Hwy 104, Opelousas and interment will follow at Little Red Church Cemetery. Pastor Vinson Tullos will officiate.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
