Richard Dale Owen, 88, of Lake Charles died on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021.
He is survived by his three sons, Richard Dale II (Jeri) of Sulphur, Alan Drew (Elizabeth) of Beaumont, Texas, and John Christopher (Katherine) of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. “Bob” and Johnnie Spradley Owen; wife, Willie Lee “Billie” Hamilton Owen; one sister; and one granddaughter, Melissa Owen.
He played basketball and football as the quarterback at Merryville High School. Following high school, he served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. After his military service, he attended McNeese State (1958) and began his career of education as teacher, principal, and school board administrator for more than 40 years. He also served as interim principal of Immaculate Conception Catholic School (ICCS) in 1984 at the request of Msgr. Irving DeBlanc.
A graveside service was held Friday, Mar. 5, at Merryville Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
