Royer takes third at state

By Mike Suchanek

Landon Royer, DeQuincy High School wrestler earned 3rd place finish in the LHSAA state tournament.

Royer, a senior at DeQuincy High School, didn’t think he was going to get the chance to earn the right to accomplish his high school goal of standing on the podium as a top wrestler in his weight class at the state meet. DeQuincy, Barbe and Sam Houston were not going to have a season after the hurricanes but the Sulphur coach and team invited all three of the schools to “join” their team and train at Sulphur High School which they all did.

Royer competed at the state meet this past weekend winning his first two matches before dropping his third match to the eventual state champion. He then dropped to the other bracket and won his next two matches gaining the coveted 3rd place finish.

Congratulations to Landon Royer on the Bronze medal finish.
