Judith Royer

Judith “Sharon” Irwin Royer, 77, of DeQuincy, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital.

She was born to her late parents, Layton and Barbara Irwin on Feb. 6, 1943 in DeQuincy. She graduated as an RN from Charity Nursing School in New Orleans, and then went to work for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Sharon then came to DeQuincy to work for her family’s business, “Nichols”.

Afterwards, returning to her Nursing profession, she went to work for DeQuincy Memorial Hospital where she eventually retired after 55 years of service in Healthcare in 2019.

She is survived by her children, Kimberly Goodman and husband Dean, and Darren Royer and wife Heather; daughter-in-law, Wendi; one brother, Rusty Irwin and wife Pam; two sisters, Sondra Stark and Colleen Pinder, all of DeQuincy; ten grandchildren, Candice, Stef, Claudia, Nyla, Mason, Kendal, Winston, Canyon, Josh, Jake; along with one great-granddaughter, Maddie.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Royer; along with her son, Steve Royer.

Services were held at the DeQuincy United Methodist Church Gym in DeQuincy on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m., with Bro. Bubba Blackburn and Rev. James Barrett officiating. Visitation was held at the DeQuincy United Methodist Church Gym on Monday, Jan. 11, from 5 until 8 p.m. Visitation resumed at the Church Gym on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Burial was at Perkins Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DeQuincy United Methodist Church, 301 E. Center St., DeQuincy LA 70633.

Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
