Elbert Slaydon

Elbert “Ross” Slaydon, 88, of Longville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 at Harbor Hospice in Lake Charles.

He was born to his late parents, William and Dolly Slaydon on Feb. 29, 1932 in Port Arthur, Texas. He enjoyed fishing and doing weekly fish fries. He loved the outdoors; especially camping. Ross loved spending time with his grandchildren, driving his tractor, and adoring his dogs and cats. Most of all, he loved his family and was a wonderful provider and role model.

Ross is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Cora Lee Baggett Slaydon; children, Bonnie Lou Hensley and husband David of Onalaska, Texas, Bubba Slaydon, Jr, fiancé Jeanna and his late wife, Julia of Lake Jackson, Texas, the late Belinda Sue Young and husband Allen Young, Donald Lynn Slaydon and his late wife Lee of Humble, Texas, Brenda Allen of Dayton, Texas, the late Ronald Slaydon and wife Pam of Ragley, Jason Slaydon and wife Misty of Ragley, Alyah Slaydon of Ragley; siblings, the late Gerald Slaydon, the late Marvin Slaydon, the late Malcolm Slaydon; the late Shirley Ann Layman, the late Lenora Slaydon, and Peggy Sue Brown and husband Bennie of Longville; numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service was held at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m., with Bro. Allen Young and Bro. David Free officiating. Burial followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley.
