R. J. Boykin

R. J. Boykin, 82 of DeQuincy passed on Wednesday, Mar. 11, 2020 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on Mar. 4, 1938 in Butler, Ala. to his parents Gray and Lorene Boykin. He was a handsome, young, pipeliner from Alabama that rolled into DeQuincy for work in 1958, to shortly fall head over heels for the love of his life, Glenda Hodges. They were married Aug. 30, 1959 and this past year celebrated 60 years of marriage.

He was a pipeliner until the age of 72. He taught us all the value of hard work with his love for his job and exceptional work ethic. You could always count on him to be there early to get the job done. When all the work was through, he loved nothing more than to spend time with and celebrate his big family.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; a brother, James Boykin; and his son-in-law, Darrell Deal.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Glenda; his children, Johnny (Idalynn) Boykin, Lisa (Duane) Boyer, Susan Barnes (special friend Ted Tolleson), and Marlene (Garland) Gillis; his grandchildren, Laci (Brad) Hext, Ashleigh Ortego, Falon (Matt) Kibodeaux, Zachary Deal, Morgan (Jarren) Cornner, Julian (Stephanie) Boykin, Lucy (Charles) Perkins, SuAnne (JW) Stark, Kara (Harrison) Dentler, Kristina (Cameron) Garcia; 18 great-grandchildren, Jaxsyn, Cooper, Hayz, Mercy, Talan, Grady, Kaislyn, Hydie, Brayleigh, Anderson, Conlee, Kylie, Jaden, Sophia, Drey, Navy, Kollins, Brooks; and one great-great-grandchild, Barrett Hext; his sisters, Linda (Leon) Todd and Sylvia Allen; a sister-in-law, Billie Boykin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family welcomed friends on Sunday, Mar. 15, at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy beginning at 1 p.m. until time of service. Funeral services were led by Pastor Wayne Neyland beginning at 3 p.m. RJ was laid to rest at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.
