Suchanek to be News’ sports writer

Mike Suchanek

Mike Suchanek is the new sports writer for the DeQuincy News. Suchanek is an avid sports fan and past DeQuincy Tiger football player. He has been a CECP on the coaching staff for the DeQuincy Tigers for the past 10 years. He can be seen at area sporting events supporting the very young as well as seasoned athletes.

He served nearly 25 years as Chief of Police for the City of DeQuincy, under five mayors, including the late Buddy Henagan, the late Gary Cooper, Jerry Bell, Lawrence Henagan, and Riley Smith.

He was a 1986 graduate of DeQuincy High School, and graduated from McNeese State University in 2005 with an Associate of Criminal Justice degree. He also graduated from the Calcasieu Parish Law Officers Training Academy and attended various law enforcement schools.

He went to work for the DeQuincy Police Department in 1988 and has worked as dispatcher, patrolman, corporal, sergeant, assistant chief, and acting chief.

Suchanek is married to Heather Mitchell Suchanek, and has six children, Kendra, Michael, Amanda, Jessica, Brayden, and Kailynn; and four grandchildren, Shayna, Madisyn, Ryleigh, and Krisly. He is a member of Bible Baptist Church and DeQuincy Masonic Lodge #279.
