Lois Alston

Lois Lynn Alston, born Whatley, was born in Beaumont, Texas on July 9, 1929, and passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at the age of 97.

Her parents, now deceased, were Roy Whatley and Laura Mae Kirby Whatley. As a young child, her family moved to DeQuincy, where she attended school, graduating in the class of 1946. In 1947, she married Prentice LaRoy Alston, and they had two children, Karen Marcantel and Darrell Alston. She began a career in banking in 1961, continuing for 30 years, before moving to Nashville, Tennessee.

She is survived by her two children, Karen Marcantel (Ronnie) and Darrell Alston (Pam), three granddaughters (Lauren Caldwell, Kasha Irwin, and Tara Dykes), two grandsons (Kyle Alston and Rick Alston) and one brother (Jimmie Royce Whatley). She also has nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Her funeral services were entrusted to Riley Smith & Sons on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Rev. Rodney Bankens officiated.

Pallbearers were Kyle Alston, Derrell Dykes, Layton Irwin, Darrell Caldwell, Alex Bertram, Chris Bertram and Cullen Irwin.

Burial followed at Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy.

She will be missed dearly.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
