The DeQuincy High School gym replacement project, which includes concessions, physical education and athletic offices, conference rooms and storage, is scheduled to be completed January 2027.
However, Tony O’Banion, Calcasieu Parish School District 10 board member said it’s possible that it could be ready by the year’s end. O’Banion also reported on progress at Starks’ schools.
Project manager for the $8.5 million project is Buddy Robison. Robison is from DeQuincy, according to O’Banion, and that has made a difference. K&J Development is the general contractor. Champeaux, Evans, Hotard is the architectural firm.
“Right now they are putting on the roof deck, getting ready to put on the roof,” O’Banion said. “Once the roof is done, they can get started with painting.
DeQuincy hardwood competition will continue at the DeQuincy Middle School gym in the meantime. The high school’s smaller gym is being completely remodeled.
That should be ready by the start of school, except for the new hardwood floor, O’Banion said. Once the larger, competition gym is completed, the floor will be changed out in the smaller gym.
Returning DHS students can look forward to a new two-acre limestone parking lot by the practice field and a brand new concession stand at the G. Dalton Faircloth Stadium.
