Erik Fontenot

Erik Jermaine Fontenot affectionately known as “E” was born Oct. 10, 1979, in Zachary to Phillip Fontenot and Gwendolyn Jackson Fontenot. Erik was raised between DeQuincy and Baton Rouge.

Erik was a member of Bethel AME Church and a graduate of DeQuincy High School where he participated in football and basketball.

He was a true jack of all trades whose greatest gift was working with his hands. Whatever he set his hands to, he did with care, craftsmanship, and pride. He built and remodeled homes through his construction work, and he was equally skilled as a mechanic. His talent, kindness, and craftsmanship left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Erik departed this life Saturday, July 4, 2026, in DeQuincy.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters, Karyelle E. Davis and Sariyah Dawn Fontenot; sons, Sean Michael Fontenot and Karson Hoover; bonus son, Eric Javonne Fontenot; father, Phillip Fontenot; mother, Gwendolyn J. Fontenot; maternal grandmother, Elaine “Grams” Jackson; sisters, Ebony (Ebrahim) Jacob and Kalecia (Greg) Fontenot; brother, Phillip Gerard (Gracie) Fontenot; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Louis and Edna Mae Fontenot; maternal grandfather, Franklin D. Roosevelt Jackson.

His visitation was held Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. with his funeral following at 11 a.m., at Bible Baptist Church located at 311 2nd St. in DeQuincy, Pastor Cha’Ree L. Brown officiated. Burial was held in Community Cemetery under the direction of James Funeral Home.
