Lou Wylie

Lou Joyce “Mama Lou” Wylie was born on Apr. 21, 1944, and passed away Sunday, Apr. 19, 2026, at the age of 81.

She was a loving “mother hen” who cared deeply for her own boys and many others who needed her. A strong and caring woman, she worked three jobs at times while remaining fully dedicated to her sons.

Lou Joyce was a faithful friend who was always there when someone needed her. Above all, she was a devout Baptist whose faith guided her life and touched everyone around her. Lou Joyce will be remembered as a strong, caring mother who loved with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her sons, Scott Wylie (Alisha) and Lanty Wylie (Lisa); daughter, Julie Ann Wylie (Stacy); grandchildren, Shane Wylie, Dalton Wylie (Tina), Josie Brown (Randy), CJ Wylie, Jacob Wylie, Seyth Wylie, Lanty Beau Wylie (Brayley), Mark Wylie (Faith), and Haygen Wylie (Hallee); great-grandchildren, River, Wayne, Crew, Bandit, Blakelynn Sophie Grace; brother, Morris “Slugo” Welch; aunt, Marleen Dodge (Richard); numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, Johnny and Henrietta Welch; great-grandson, Lanty Joe Wylie; siblings, Sherri Welch and John Terrell Welch; sister-in-law, Wendy Welch.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Apr. 23, from 5 – 8 p.m., Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Visitation will continue Friday, Apr. 24, from 1 p.m., until the funeral service at 2 p.m., Riley Smith & Sons. Rev. Scott Streams will be officiating. Interment will follow at Riley Smith Memorial Park in DeQuincy.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
