The “Gymnasium” project sign posted at the DeQuincy Baseball Fields and announced during the opening of PONY League baseball season, will be funded with Community Development Grant-Disaster Recovery grant monies, according to Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Communications and Media Director Joseph Booth.
In an email to the DeQuincy News, Booth wrote that the Police Jury is responsible for grant administration, compliance and financial oversight. The Recreation District, as a subrecipient of the Police Jury, is responsible for implementing the project in accordance with all applicable grant requirements.
The $2.1 million grant will deliver a storm-hardened, multi-purpose recreation facility designed to serve a wide range of community needs.
Final design details are still being developed. The facility is intended to provide a durable, flexible space for recreational use and public gatherings, Booth wrote in his email.
