Jeff Chandler, 82, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Mar. 12, 2024.
Born in Joiner, Ark. on Nov. 3, 1941, Jeff was the cherished son of Rev. Jeff and Elnora Chandler. His family later moved to Joliet, Illinois where he spent his formative years, eventually meeting the love of his life.
Jeff and Janice exchanged vows on Oct. 12, 1963, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. The life they created together blessed them with being a part of many communities. In 1980 they embarked on a new chapter in Austin, Texas; creating countless memories and friendships at Rustle Ln. From their enduring union, they were blessed with three beloved sons: Jeffrey Scott, Christopher David, and Steven Philip.
Jeff was a devoted husband, father, and Papa, known for his unwavering love and commitment to his family. His kind heart, infectious laughter, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He never met a stranger and he will be remembered for his willingness to always lend a helping hand to those in need.
Jeff was a dedicated employee of IBM for 37 years, where he made lasting contributions to the company. After his retirement from IBM, he began working at Tarrytown Methodist Church in Austin. He found great joy in serving as a part of the Tarrytown UMC community.
In 1963, Jeff was drafted into the army, where he completed Southern Signal School and worked in Communications. He served his country with honor for two years before returning to IBM after his service was complete.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his sisters, Patricia Ann Dillard and Coretta Coleman; brothers, William Chandler, Richard Chandler, and Peter Chandler; and one nephew, Nathaniel Chandler. Jeff was also preceded in death by his oldest son, Jeffrey Scott Chandler.
In addition to his wife, Janice, Jeff is survived by his sons, Christopher and Steven; granddaughters Amber Haygood and her husband James, and Jasmyn Chander; and great-granddaughter, Emily Haygood.
In addition to his immediate family, Jeff is survived by his siblings: Ernestine (Billy Sr.) Hamilton; Ruth Ann Chandler; Alfred (Carol) Chandler; Reverend Dr. Janette Kotey; and Denise (Bishop Leroy) Lane, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Jeff’s life was held at First Pentecostal Church of Austin on Friday, Mar. 22,at 7 p.m. Jeff Chandler’s legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
