Last week, the Calcasieu Parish School Board approved an $8,000 supplement payment for teachers and a $5,600 supplement payment for support staff, according to Tony O’Banion, Dist. 10 School Board representative.
The supplement was approved at the Tuesday, Oct. 6 meeting.
Based on previous Board action, one half of the supplement will be paid on October 30, 2026, and the other half will be paid on March 25, 2027. One-half of the appropriate supplement will be paid to employees classified as part-time.
Also at that meeting, the School Board heard presentations from both 4-H and Peer Initiative-Leaders of Tomorrow. Both organizations shared the impact on students in our district, according to the CPSB website.
Several school audits were approved coming out of the Budget Committee Meeting. School audits for Barbe High, Vinton High, Iowa High, Starks High, DeQuincy High, Oak Park Middle, W.W. Lewis Middle, Dolby Elementary, T.H. Watkins Elementary, College Oaks Elementary, and Pearl Watson Elementary all came back with no significant deficiencies and no failed audits.
The district received permission from The Honorable Judge James D. Cain to proceed with a spring bond election in District 33. Last night the Board adopted a resolution to proceed with calling the election.
The board denied a funding agreement between Persimmon Gulch Solar, LLC. and the district. Persimmon Gulch Solar, LLC. was asking to make a donation to several CPSB schools but wanted the district to enter into a contract with the company. The motion failed.
