James Andrew “Jimmy” Schirmer, 84, of Vinton, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, in Sulphur. He was born on July 28, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to James and Margaret Schirmer.
Jimmy is survived by his son, Wesley Schirmer and wife Risa; grandchildren, Faith Snyder (Joseph), Cheyann Fontenot (Tadyn), and Kenneth Schirmer; great-grandchildren, Alissa Snyder and Ellie Fontenot; and nieces, Kelley Fitzgerald and Dionja Dyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Schirmer; his son, Wendell; and his sister, Marcy.
The family is especially grateful to the caregivers at Holly Hill Rehab for their compassionate care, and to Jimmy’s friends at the Vinton Senior Center for their years of friendship, support, and well wishes.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, at Crossroads Baptist Church in Vinton. Pastor Rob Tibbitts will be officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
