DeQuincy City Council meeting held Monday, Sept. 14, was called to order by Cameron Smith, President of Council. Invocation and Pledge were led by Mayor Riley Smith and Scott Wylie. Roll Call was done by Sherri Breaux, City Clerk and Clerk to Council. The Aug. 10, 2026 regular meeting minutes and the Sept. 14, 2026 Agenda were approved by the Council.
The Council discussed and approved the change of the date of the October meeting to Tuesday, Oct. 13, due to a Federal holiday on Oct. 12. Council Woman Margaret Brown was presented a certificate from the Louisiana Municipal Association. Mayor Smith presented the certificate to her during the council meeting.
The Splash Pad will remain open until Wednesday, Sept. 30, and will reopen in the spring. The 3rd Annual Fly-In will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. The city will have a Tax Renewal on the voting ballot this November. This happens once every 15 years. Kim Rainwater officially resigned as City Planner and thanked everyone for the years she had with the city.
James and Meloney Woolford were approved to place their mobile home on their lot located at 203 Gill St.
W. Tracey Brown was re-appointed to serve as a Commissioner of the Housing Authority for five years.
Number 8 on the Agenda, authorizing Mayor Smith to sign documents necessary for appointment of members to the DeQuincy Historic District Commission and authorization to complete the Certified Local Government (CLG) application, was tabled until next month’s meeting.
The following two Resolutions were adopted by the Council:
Authorizing Mayor Smith to sign all documents to hire Engineering Consultant for the DeQuincy Airport.
Authorizing Mayor Smith to sign all documents to renew an agreement with Pipeline Integrity Partners, consultants for gas and pipeline safety.
Ordinance No. 1012 was introduced and a public hearing was set for Tuesday, Oct. 13, for Beauregard Electric Coop franchise renewal (BECI).
