For the second year in a row, mother nature has won the scrimmage. However this time the DeQuincy Tigers got just a little more work in compared to last year as both DeQuincy and Basile varsity traded series multiple times in between a couple of lightning delays. After play resumed following the second delay both teams competed for about 15 to 20 minutes while the skies began to get darker and fans were constantly checking the radar as the weather started to become more widespread. The wind began to blow which was actually a nice cool down for what was a very hot and humid day. However that strong breeze was met with large raindrops, followed by a very intense bolt of lightning that struck at least half a mile away in town, which prompted everybody to seek shelter and ended the scrimmage.
Both DeQuincy and Basile still managed to get plenty of work done in between each lightning delay. However neither team was able to score but DeQuincy did move the ball at times and looked pretty solid defensively.
DeQuincy obviously did not show a whole lot in the playbook which is usual for most teams during the preseason. This scrimmage was a chance for the coaches to really see where their players stand and make adjustments on the go in preparation for the regular season. So the advice to the average football fan is do not invest any stock into a preseason contest as it is still considered in an evaluation period.
