June 8, 2026
DeQuincy, Louisiana
The City Council of the City of DeQuincy met in regular session on June 8, 2026, in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 300 Holly Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana, with the following members present: Scott Wylie, Jim Smith, Cameron Smith, Margaret Brown, and Bobby “Eddy” Dahlquist.
The invocation was given, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
The minutes of the May 11, 2026, regular meeting were approved.
The May 2026 Monthly Budget Report and Actual Comparison Reports for the General Fund, Street/Sales Tax Fund, Utility Fund, Airport Fund, Public Safety Fund, and Public Service and Safety Building Fund were included in each council member’s packet. Fire, Police, Public Works, Sewer, and Maintenance Department reports were also available in the council files. Mayor Smith presented the City Report verbally. There were no questions or comments from the Council.
The agenda was amended to add an item authorizing Mayor Smith to negotiate with the property owners at 601 North Grand Avenue regarding property damage caused by the City of DeQuincy.
Public input on items not listed on the agenda was heard from a citizen concerning property located at 129 Pine Street.

The Council appointed DeQuincy News as the Official Journal for the City of DeQuincy.
An update was provided regarding the DeQuincy Shooting Range.
An update was provided regarding the Farmers Market/Rolling Vendor program.
The Council denied a variance request for the owners of 219 Kelly Street due to the homeowners not residing in the mobile home.
The Council approved a four-month extension of a variance for the owner of 722 Beach Street to allow the use of a travel trailer on the property.
The Council approved the DeQuincy Industrial Airpark’s request to advertise for bids for the “Airfield Drainage Improvements – Phase II” project, to be funded through a grant issued by the FAA/LADOTD.
The Council adopted a resolution authorizing Mayor Smith to act on behalf of the City of DeQuincy and take all appropriate action necessary to remove one of the four generators included in the HGA Grant.
A public hearing was held regarding a resolution calling an election for the renewal of the one-half percent (?%) sales tax dedicated to public safety and fire protection. The election will be held on the Primary Election date of November 3, 2026. No public comments were received.
Following the public hearing, the Council adopted a resolution calling for the renewal election of the one-half percent (?%) sales tax dedicated to public safety and fire protection to be held on November 3, 2026.
Ordinance No. 995B was introduced, and a public hearing was scheduled for August 10, 2026, to amend the budget for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2026.
Ordinance No. 1008 was introduced, and a public hearing was scheduled for August 10, 2026, concerning the proposed budget of expenditures for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2027.
Ordinance No. 1009 was introduced, and a public hearing was scheduled for July 13, 2026, to declare property located on Yoakum Avenue, Parcel Nos. 00749001A and 01343049, as surplus property and to authorize the sale of a servitude to the property owner at 101 Yoakum Avenue.
A public hearing was held regarding the structure located at 210 Hall Street. The homeowner addressed the Council concerning repairs being made to the property and requested an additional sixty (60) days to complete the work. No other public comments were received.
The Council voted to postpone proceeding to the next step of the condemnation process for the structure located at 210 Hall Street for a period of sixty (60) days.
A public hearing was held regarding the structure located at 304 South Perkins Street. No public comments were received.
The Council adopted an Order of Condemnation and Demolition and authorized the final step in the condemnation process for the structure located at 304 South Perkins Street.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
